This year in 3D graphics and design I have been
working on making a model biplane. I am accomplishing this by taking a
blueprint of a biplane and making a copy of the parts into Maya. Then I
took those parts and I am starting to assemble them to make them look
like the shape of the biplane parts. For example I took a flat wing and
the shape of the wing from the side and put them together so that I had
the shape of the wing. Then I took the shape and exuded it the length
of the wing so that the wing was in 3d. I then took the top and the
bottom of the plane and put it against the side of the plane and shaped
the top and sides so that they meet and were as smooth as I could get
them. To get to the point where I can do this I had to learn all of the
different features of Maya. I had to learn how to do wire frame
modeling, copy and paste, extrude, and duplicate special. I had to use a
combination of all of these things to be able to make the plane. In
the first week I worked on getting the sizes of all of the parts of the
plane. I got the two wings and the wing components done in one day.
Then
the next day I got the parts for the body of the plane made. The
second week I started to put the body of the plane together.
Then the fourth week I attached the wings to the plane.
I still need the do the wheels and the propeller but it is really starting to come together.
